Offered here is an authentic late 19th century Hardy Bros. greenheart salmon fly rod measuring an impressive 12.5 feet in length, featuring the desirable stamped “Hardy’s W Fitting Reg’d Aug 16 1873” brass hardware.

This rod represents the transitional era of fly fishing tackle before split cane bamboo dominated the market, when Hardy of Alnwick was producing elite greenheart rods for salmon and sea trout anglers across Britain and abroad.

Constructed from solid greenheart wood, the rod retains its original character with:

  • Correct antique Hardy brass fittings
  • Period ferrules and wraps
  • Full length sections
  • Original cloth rod bag
  • Rich natural patina consistent with a 19th century example

The long 12.5 ft configuration strongly suggests it was built as a salmon or large river rod, typical of Hardy’s higher-end offerings during the 1880–1900 period.

Unlike many surviving greenheart rods, this example remains complete and well preserved, making it highly desirable for collectors, fly fishing historians, or lodge display.

This is not merely a fishing rod — it is a genuine piece of fly fishing history from one of the most iconic tackle makers ever established.
